Detailed 07 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Shira Route Itinerary

DAY 1: ARUSHA/MOSHI – SHIRA GATE – SIMBA CAMP

Depart from Arusha or Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration, then continue to Shira Gate (3,600m) where the trek begins. Hike through heath and moorland zones with open views of the mountain before arriving at Simba Camp for overnight rest.

DAY 2: SIMBA CAMP – SHIRA 2 CAMP

Trek across the expansive Shira Plateau, enjoying volcanic rock formations and sweeping views of the alpine landscape. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp for acclimatization and overnight stay.

DAY 3: SHIRA 2 CAMP – LAVA TOWER – BARRANCO CAMP

Ascend toward Lava Tower (4,630m) for acclimatization before descending into Barranco Camp. This day offers important altitude adjustment and dramatic mountain scenery.

DAY 4: BARRANCO CAMP – KARANGA CAMP

Climb the famous Barranco Wall, then descend into Karanga Valley. This challenging day rewards trekkers with incredible views and continued acclimatization.

Continue trekking through alpine desert terrain toward Barafu Camp (4,673m), the base for the summit attempt. Receive a detailed briefing from guides before resting for summit preparation.

DAY 6: BARAFU CAMP – UHURU PEAK – MWEKA CAMP

Begin summit attempt around midnight, ascending through the night to reach Stella Point (5,685m) at sunrise. Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa, before descending to Mweka Camp for rest.

DAY 7: MWEKA CAMP – MWEKA GATE – MOSHI/ARUSHA

Descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate where climbers receive their summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha for rest and departure.
